A Student in Digital Marketing
Student best practices in digital marketing that can be directly related and applied to a student’s digital marketing degree, along with exercising those practices in every day studies and life, can lead a student to success in both their educational and academic pursuit.
I am attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn where I am double majoring in Business Management and Digital Marketing. I began my journey in September of 2014, and will complete my B.B.A in April of 2018. The plethora of classes associated with marketing and digital marketing, both required and non required for my major, have shown me that there are a wide variety of sectors within the industry and that the learning capacity truly is endless.
As a student who is currently working on obtaining a digital marketing degree, I consistently aim to expand my knowledge base of the industry. This includes keeping up with the latest statistics of how the digital marketing field is doing as a whole, information about the many positions that are available, and what I can do, study and practice as a student in order to shape myself into the best digital marketer I can be.
Digital Marketing Intro
As defined by the American Marketing Association, “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.”
The activity of marketing can consist of anything from simply handing out flyers, to hosting a contest in order to bring awareness to a brand or company, to creating a 3 month campaign that consists of a various promotions and events. The set of institutions refers to the businesses and companies that do/host the activity of marketing. Creating an event, promotion, strategy, campaign, etc. in order to communicate the value of the good, service, or business to potential customers, are the main functions of marketing companies.
Now lets take those operations listed above and convey them to customers using digital channels only. Digital Marketing is the new and improved, efficient, digital, & modern way of marketing. Using various forms of digital media, which includes those beyond the internet realm, in order to carry out the functions of marketing, is the way our global economy has adapted to our fast-paced, consistently changing, technologically based business world.
